What if my pet isn't trained to sit or stay?

It’s totally normal to wonder if your dog will sit still for photos — but rest assured, I’ve got you covered. My own dog, Bailey, is a ball of energy and has been one of my greatest teachers when it comes to photographing spirited pets.

A quick walk before the session can help take the edge off, and we can always incorporate action shots so your pup can just be themselves. In fact, some of the best images happen when pets are free to play, explore, and show off their true colors.

My pet can't go off leash. Is that ok?

Your pet’s safety is always my top priority. During outdoor sessions, all dogs remain on-leash to prevent any unpredictable distractions or dangers. I even have a special long leash that allows for beautiful action shots while keeping your pet safe. I retouch leashes out in post-production, so you won’t see them in your final images.

Please beware that bulky harnesses and gentle leaders make it really challenging to accurately recreate the hidden fur or body in post-production. If possible, I recommend using a simple flat collar for your session – it makes a big difference when it comes to clean, polished final images.

What if my pet is shy?

If your pet is naturally shy, that's totally ok. New people – especially ones carrying strange camera gear – can feel intimidating at first. Choosing a familiar location helps ease them in, and I always move slowly and gently to build their trust. I also used a zoom lens, which allows me to keep a comfortable distance while still capturing beautiful, expressive portraits without overwhelming them.

What if the weather isn't cooperating?

We all know what Colorado weather is like. I do my best to avoid cancelling due to weather conditions and am prepared to work with almost anything. Unless the weather takes a turn for the worst, we can of course reschedule!
